Info

Based in the small town of Greenock, near Glasgow, Scotland, this indie rock band comprises Chris Deveney (vocals, guitar, bass), Gary Deveney (vocals, guitar), Paul McGeachy (vocals, guitar, xylophone), Laura McFarlane (vocals, violin, piano) and Ryan King (percussion). The quintet's artistic and theatrical brand of multi-layered indie rock saw them frequently compared to Canadian outfit , although their acoustic-based sound is more folk than rock-based, and is at times reminiscent of Scottish contemporaries . The band was formed in 2005 when the Deveney brothers decided to merge their individual musical projects and work together. They quickly attracted interest from several record labels, and eventually signed a contract with Bella Union. Several single releases fuelled their growing reputation before was released in March 2006. Although it underachieved commercially, the album was well received by fans and most critics and clearly demonstrated a young band full of original ideas. The album featured an abundance of mood and tempo changes, spoken Scottish-accented vocals with haunting backing harmonies, and a blend of strings and xylophone that combined to create occasional moments of beauty.
