Saturday 25 September ... Karnival's Alternative Freshers Week party

Karnival's contribution to Cab's Alternative Freshers Week features special guest Paul Woolford.

Through his work as DJ, producer, remixer, and label owner, Paul Woolford has succeeded in bringing a rare level of artistry to the disposable world of modern dance music. He's never one for the easy option or safe path, and his recent Renaissance Platform double CD illustrates his approach - instead of using standard available tracks, he chose instead to produce brand-new material purely for use on this release, in the shape of exclusive re-edits and remixes, all lovingly spliced and diced using modern technology.

Initially inspired by the constant throb of the radio throughout his childhood, the seeds of young Paul Woolford's future direction were sown when a record-collecting addiction kicked during his teenage years. This insatiable appetite for musical stimulation has driven Woolford to explore far beyond the cutting-edge house and techno that he's now known for, and has led him down more experimental paths. He has embraced aspects of improvised jazz in his collaborative work with Paul Hession, as well as taking huge inspiration from the modern compositions of Steve Reich. Woolford distils these influences and introduces them into his own productions.
