Friday 27 August ... Sugarbeat Festival Special with
Jackbeats and
AC Slater.
Jackbeats - www.myspace.com/jackbeats - is a collaboration between Beni G (Mixologists) and Plus One (Scratch Perverts), that surfs the new wave of British house music. Wobbly basslines, big breakdowns and accapellas are cut, copied and pasted together to create a unique brand of house, sucking in influences as diverse as Timbaland, Rage Against the Machine and A Guy Called Gerald but spitting out something unique, engaging and totally floorfilling.
AC Slater - www.myspace.com/theacslater - hails from Philadelphia but now resides in New York City. He came to prominence asone of the biggest American hardcore and freeform DJs, though he later moved away from to focus instead on fidget house. He has remixed the likes of Freestylers, Moby, Shwayze Human Resource and Drop The Lime, and he's also the boss of the Party Like Us label.

Friday 24 September ... Sugarbeat's Alternative Freshers Week Party with double special guests
Foamo and
The Living Graham Bond - part of Cab's Alternative Freshers Week.
Foamo is Kye Gibbon, a DJ/producer from High Wycombe. He plays all over the UK and Europe and has toured Australia, Asia, America & Canada. He has also performed many guest mixes on BBC Radio 1, Kiss FM and other stations around the world. He is a resident at the legendary Chew The Fat! in London, as well being a resident at We Love Sundays at the legendary Space in Ibiza.
The Living Graham Bond has gone from strength to strength this year building a strong reputation both in the studio and behind the decks. A regular at London's Chew the Fat!, he has been creating a storm on dancefloors from Zagreb to Vienna to Milan.
His reputation was enhanced earlier this summer with the release of the storming track Winter Hunter, featuring Fiona Bevan’s incredible vocal input. Showcasing both his pop sensibilities and trademark rough house beats, it's The Living Graham Bond's best record to date.

SUGARBEAT -THE BACKGROUND ... Sugarbeat was set up in 2001 by Tim and Jez of The Utah Saints (forget the u-u-u of old - they've moved on a long way since then...) in their home town of Leeds as an opportunity to get back to DJing to a live, ground-level crowd,. The general rule was simple; to play as broad a definition of dance music as possible, the only criteria being it must have the funk.
As the popularity of the night grew, and as they began to start playing other gigs around the country, they realised the need to book quality guests to fill in when they were away, which has led the Leeds night to host such names as Soulwax (2manydjs), DJ Yoda, Arthur Baker, DJ Dexter (The Avalanches), Run (Run DMC), The Scratch Perverts, DJ ZInc, The Freestylers, Stanton Warriors, High Contrast, Zane Lowe, DJ Ca$h Money, Freq Nasty and Japan's DJ Kentaro.
In January 2005, Sugarbeat decided to launch
Sugarbeat Edinburgh at Cabaret Voltaire - its first-ever regular, official spin-off night outside of its home town. The Edinburgh night quickly established itself as a key event in the city's clubbing calendar and has gathered an army of loyal regulars.
There have been some memorable nights so far, with guests such as
FELIX DA HOUSECAT, JUSTICE, ANNIE MAC, KRAFTY KUTS, DJ MEHDI and JAMES LAVELLE all getting the special Sugarbeat Edinburgh reception and filling the venue to capacity at each event. This success led to a special Sugarbeat in the Gardens event in Princes Street Gardens in the summer of 2007.
The ethos of Sugarbeat is not based on a particular genre, but is instead based on creating a 'you could be round your mates house' style party vibe. Tim and Jez know how to have a good time, and they want to share that. Their mix'n'match old-skool hip hop style blends funk with breaks, beats with soul, D&B with electro and warmth with a sense of humour, and many of the edits and mixes they play are specially made exclusively for Sugarbeat.
Amazingly, mainly through blagging favours, Sugarbeat has always managed to keep the door prices consistently low, in line with their Power To The Beats philosophy. In a nutshell, it's never been about making money or fleecing clubbers - it's just about having a good time.
