Café Voltaire, our fearless, day-walking-yet-night-loving cocktail bar has been enjoying the benefits of a programme adjustment as of late and the reception has been wonderful! A return to daily 3am closing time and earlier opening hours of 5pm weekdays and 1pm on weekends means there’s plenty of time to enjoy not only a much needed coffee or a sample of the extensive cocktail menu on offer, but also the free wi-fi, great tunes and a game of Pacman or Donkey Kong on the gaming tables which are always free of charge.
But it’s not just opening times that have improved; our DJ rotation has also had a makeover…
Café Voltaire veteran Martin Valentine now hosts his latest inception Playroom on a weekly basis. Staying true to form, he selects from slo jams, edits, afro, disco and house in a new Thursday night allocation from 10pm.
Tuesdays and Fridays remain more than aptly provided for by David Elders and Fly Club residents La La Land/Johnny Herd respectably with a menu of all things house keeping the atmosphere sociable but not overbearing – just the way we like it. Friday evenings from 8pm continue to feature a hip hop soundtrack from the Domino Club selectors.
Saturday nights have had the biggest overhaul with a fresh rotation of some of Scotland’s finest funk and soul DJs. Long serving selector Rob Ralston opens the month for us a funky as can be, followed by Natasha ‘Kitty Katt’ Probert in what is her new fortnightly residency. And the cherry on top surely has to be the securing of West Coast funk DJ/percussionist duo Shaka Loves You who make the trip along the M8 on the third Saturday of every month to round off a real winning monthly formula.
There’s plenty more to come from Café Voltaire so be sure to keep in touch as we make further announcements in the new future!
